Potato Growing Using Bio-degradable Mulch Film

potato growing using mulch film

Guide: The goal of employing biodegradable mulch film is to boost output. However, if it is not recycled or left in the soil after harvesting, it will cause significant pollution and have little effect on raising production. The best way to encourage growers to use biodegradable mulch film is to increase their yield rather than taking the films back from the soil since this will help to reduce mulch film pollution. The ground’s microorganisms may break down biodegradable mulch layer in the soil without having to recycle it, into carbon dioxide and water, and it will finally vanish with no trace and without leaving residue in soil.

Type of crop used in this project: potato.

The Conclusion

Our firm collaborates with an agricultural company and the Agricultural Research Institute in the area where the test site is located to evaluate the yield increase of crops caused by the degradable mulch film we produce. During the harvest season, our team harvests, weighs, and inspects at the planting site with the support of the local media. The application indications of the technology were validated to meet the criteria. The data passed the on-site examination with great marks.

According to the agricultural company’s representative, this is the second year that they have used the fully biodegradable mulch film we developed for potato planting. The fully biodegradable mulch film is not only green and environmentally friendly, but it also saves labor costs associated with mulch film recovery and has a better production increase effect. The company hopes that our company will introduce more products like this in the future.

The Process

This on-site assessment mainly looks at how entirely biodegradable mulch film affects potato productivity and the presence of green potatoes, and assesses its compatibility for mechanical harvesting. This technology’s experimental application area for winter potatoes is 50 acres in total.

After planting, the mulch films were covered in mid-November of 2021, and after more than four months of field treatment, it was clear that the influence of the increased production. Additionally, the entirely biodegradable mulch film shows clear fissures during the potato harvest season while having a strong degrading impact and being able to fulfill mechanical harvesting standards. Winter potato yields using 100% biodegradable mulch film averaged 6000–7500 kg/acre, 10% more than yields using regular mulching film.
